Profile

I studied Physiotherapy as a mature student having been a Ski Instructor since leaving school. Qualifying with a 2:1 (Hons) from Keele University where the curriculum gave me a broad depth of study in Orthopaedic  rehab. I was fortunate to spend time at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital Oswestry a renowned centre of excellence in Spinal care and at the forefront of ACL reconstruction surgery and rehab regimes in the UK. After qualifying, I headed south and worked in both the public and private sector around High Wycombe & Henley-on-Thames enjoying in particular pitchside work with rugby teams. This gave rise to an interest in Sports Medicine, which I had the opportunity to study at UCL. I took Masters level units in Physiology, & Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation whilst expecting the first of my two children and enjoyed working as part of the Commonwealth Games Physio team in Manchester 2002. At this time I completed the rehabilitation training with Polestar UK for Pilates Equipment teaching.

After taking time at home with two littlies, I re-registered with the Health Care Professions  Board (PH 55813) and updated my physiotherapy knowledge through self study and guided courses over a year in 2009. This was the time that I re-gained the Pilates qualifications – passing matwork certification with Polestar UK and then continuing to further my interest in using the Pilates Method repertoire and equipment as a platform for injury rehabilitation. This led me to study and membership of APPI (Australian Pilates Physiotherapy Institute), where I hold full certification in all the equipment disciplines.

Over time the techniques that I have found most effective – hands on work, taping and guided exercise for specific sports and womens health issues have been the areas that I have continued to study and update with professional courses.

Alongside the physiotherapy I remain a keen skier and cyclist (mountain and road). I qualified and worked for 18 months at the Specialized Concept store in Newbury as a Consultant bike fitter using the Body Geometry Method. It was fabulous to be able to make small adjustments in millimeter that make large impacts on comfort and endurance on the bike.
